Lines of Communication

From Apple's presentation today on the faulty antenna on the iPhone 4:

Of course people haven't called you about their reception problems. They can't call you because they have reception problems.

Don't even get me started about internet service providers who have online troubleshooting systems.

Also, many wouldn't call cause they know it wouldn't go anywhere. What's the % of cell phone users that actual thinks calling the manufacturer will get you anything?!?!?!?!?

I'm willing to buy that some people are having serious problems with the phone, but this is *way* overblown. Hell, if you hold the phone I have (Verizon LG Env Touch) over the lower left corner, you not only have the same thing happen, but you cover the microphone. It even says it in the manual! "Tips on Efficient Operation: For your phone to operate most efficiently: Don’t touch the antenna unnecessarily when the phone is in use. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed."

It sounds a lot like the Toyota acceleration problem where the findings show that while there are problems with the vehicle, the majority of the forensic investigation of the car & computers show that people were actually stomping on the wrong damned pedal.

Maybe, but hitting the wrong pedal with your foot is a far cry from simply using the phone with your left hand.

I could be wrong, but I thought the big hoopla is that Apple isn't planning on doing anything about it other than offering a free case or refund. If it's truly as small a problem as they say, why not offer replacement phones?

Plus, with all the other problems you've had with the touch, saying it does the same thing doesn't really defend the iPhone ;)
