Full Contact Opera

I'm quite positive that tonight during trivia, my friends and I were in the only sports bar in all of Denver (maybe even the whole country) that had a television showing opera. Actual opera.

Some channel was on something like a PBS or some such for the entire two-plus hours we were there, and they were doing some extended tribute to Pavarotti by showing one of his performances with bits of interviews sprinkled in.

On the big screen next to Pavarotti? Major League Baseball for a while. Then a soccer game for a while after that.

Just bizarre.

If they only had footage of Pavarotti going "GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!" for the soccer game, that would be perfect.

Perhaps Pavarotti generates more excitement in Denver than the Rockies or Broncos. :)

With the Rockies getting whupped 12-4 on the next tv? Yes. Pavarotti was much more interesting.

With the MLS game showing people walking back and forth on a big lawn? Yes, Pavarotti was much more interesting.

Yes, I'm saying that the dead opera singer was more interesting than the living athletes. Go ahead. Make fun of me.

Out of three sleep inducing activities, I at least have some respect for the talent of the opera singer.

/Yes, I have soccer/baseball bitterness.
//It was still very surreal.

The Rockies suffer from being in a division where having only a just-above-mediocre record is not enough to get a playoff berth. The NL Central, on the other hand, has been a horse race between three teams that have fallen apart at different times over the past couple of weeks.

At least you aren't a Devil Rays fan, if such a creature can be found. I can't for the life of me understand how or why that team exists.

Of course, opera is slightly more interesting than baseball...
