The Day the (DDR) Music Died

Franky Gee, the gap-toothed frontman of the band Captain Jack, died today as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage. Though I've never owned one of their albums and had never been to one of their concerts, they nevertheless hold a very special place in my heart: at least one or two Captain Jack songs were included in every incarnation of Dance Dance Revolution. (That includes the brand new one.) Usually, they were among the best songs in the game. Only You, Dream a Little Dream, In the Navy... yeah, I've done a lot of stepping to Captain Jack.

Rest in peace, captain.

Like I said to another DDR person, in his memory, I will put my hands up.

I still need to get the new DDR (and I really need to play the old ones a bit too just to start to bring my activity level back up a bit now that I'm not nauseous all the time anywmore). We plan to go to Barnes and Noble today and there's a game store there, and knowing there's a Captain song in there might just be that final bit of incentive I need.

Doh, the "hands up" was an Only You reference. The "My Generation" song from DDRMax also has something like "throw your hands up" and I was surprised you'd picked that one to reference. But you didn't. Oh well. If you guys can, dig up a Captain Jack video called "Give It Up" since Captain Jack apparently did just that. It's nearly as entertaining as the video for "Only You".

I talked to Evan on the phone whilst cleaning out Kyle's attic. He told me Dance Master Mode in the new DDR was a snoozefest. So naturally I started with this mode to get it out of the way. I have finished areas "A" and "B" and started on "C". They roughly translate to "Beginner", "Light", and "Standard"; I finally failed my first mission at C-25. I haven't even played any of the other modes. Nothing but Dance Master so far here! On another note, I also scored my first AAA! My favorite surprise in this mix was the return of "Sana Molette Ne Ente" from DDRMax.

I finally got this and played it a bit. I managed a couple of fives but I don't really have energy or mobility for a lot of the stuff I'd like to do in it. Mostly I'm playing anything that's a four until I can't do that anymore, then I'll step down to threes unless they put me on bed rest or something.

I put a couple of eights on and just watched to make sure my brain stays programmed for DDR goodness. I can't quite make myself play with the controller--I'm better off moving my ass to a four that won't make me and the baby too tired than sitting on my butt pressing controller buttons.
