Pearls Before Breakfast

It's very long, and not light reading, but it's pretty fascinating. FKL sent me this tale of a renowned concert violinist who decided to participate in an interesting little social experiment -- if he just played on the street, "begging for money," would anyone take note?

With all the rejection letters I've received for my book proposals, I've often wondered: If Stephen King handed me a new book he wrote and told me to get it published under my name, could I?

That's sort of what I thought of while reading this article.

That's a good question, Jason.
I've read in an interview that King himself was aware of this (his name being the main reason people were buying his books sight unseen) and was pissed-off by it.

How did his Richard Bachman books do back in the days, by the way?

I don't know how they did financially, but I know I bought them without knowing they were King's stories at the time, and two of them are still among my favorites (The Long Walk and Running Man).

A few months ago, there was a news item around here about a Muslim immigrant getting called for interviews after sending his resume with a more "Quebecer" name to companies that rejected his candidacy initially.
