Of course, the day after I post about how award shows tend to be too self-congratulating, an announcement is made that really gets me interested in this year's Academy Awards: Jon Stewart is hosting them. His bit at the Emmy Awards a few months back was the highlight of the show. He seems a great choice to me.
Of course, it probably means we'll have to go without new episodes of The Daily Show that week. So it's not all good.

I hope they show his befuddled face when the Best Song candidates are performed.
Mark Evanier, in a blog I recommend, makes some points here about Jon as a choice and how he probably wasn't the first choice.

so i'm at work and listening to my new video ipod and eddie izzard is on. And as I'm going through my blog links, it just happens to be coincidence that Gunter is explaining his Maneuver.
I thought Chris Rock did a pretty good job last year. Hopefully Stewart will be his usually entertaining self.
My friends here typically have an Oscar pool, so I've sat through the whole thing the past two years and anything to make it more entertaining is alright by me.
